Rodborough Fields Exhibition

29/1/2013

Debbie and her daughter went to the Imperial Hotel today to support the Rodborough Fields campaign to halt development on the Rodborough Fields. Sam played an important role by logging peoples addresses onto a large map to see how many are concerned about plans to build all over Stroud.
Debbie said "We do need houses, but it is about where they are built and they need to be built with the consent of the existing population. If this doesn;t happen we will not have united communities" Debbie has been supportive of this campaign and others to halt unwanted development.
Debbie also delivered leaflets from Neil Carmichael MP emphasizing his support for their campaign.

Rodborough Fields Exhibition

26/1/2013

There is to be an exhibition of the plans for Rodborough Fields at the Imperial Hotel on the 29th January from 3.30 until 7pm. Local people will be able to make their comments on the proposed development and Debbie will be there to support those opposed to the housing proposals, Please come and join her and others to ensure local views are represented.

Great Western Air Ambulance

25/1/2013

Debbie visited Filton today to see the work of the Great Western Air Ambulance, a charity which provides essential emergency air ambulance cover to Gloucestershire. Based in Filton they can fly to Chalford within 12 minutes and Stroud 15 minutes. Rather than just flying patients to the nearest A&E they take A&E to the patients.
Their incredibly well qualified staff, mean that emergency treatment can be flown in, and deal with the situation saving valuable  time in the Golden Hour. The Golden Hour is the time in which a seriously injured person is most likely to have their life saved. GWAAC are currently raising funds to have a new helicopter, so any loose change would be gratefully received in the collecting boxes all over Stroud

Festival of Engineering

24/1/2013

Debbie is part of the Festival of Manufacturing and Engineering Working Group. Together with Neil Carmichael and representatives from major engineering companies such as Renishaw, Delphi, Dairycrest and Omega Resource Group PLC they are working on the 2013 Festival due to start on November 11th. This is one of the campaigns Debbie is working on for  the benefit of  the people of Stroud

Flooding Alleviation

24/1/2013

Picture
Parts of Chalford and Stroud suffered badly from floods in December 2012. At the Budget setting meeting at Stroud District Council on the 24th January, Debbie made an ammendment to the budget. She suggested that £300,000 be taken from the hydro scheme and be put in a reserve for flood alleviation.
Having spoken to Will Windsor Clive the responsible Cabinet Member for the County Council, she had been promised matched funding to ensure scenes like this would not happen again. Her ammendment was defeated.
Debbie said 'I felt this was a far better use of the money and I worked hard to get matched funding. I am disappointed that I cannot give better news to the people of Chalford and Stroud who were flooded last year'

Keeping People Updated

18/1/2013

Picture
Following today's heavy snowfall, Debbie went out several times to check on road conditions and inform local people what was happening via Twitter. When Cowcombe Hill was closed she spent time turning cars away to stop them attempting to go further.

Debbie does this on a regular basis in snowy conditions and will continue to do so during this period of cold and snowy weather

Stratford Park Leisure Centre

16/1/2013

Picture
Debbie promised when she was campaigning back in 2008 to improve Stratford Park Leisure Centre. She was then delighted in 2009 to be asked to be part of the Cabinet at the District Council to retender the contract for the leisure centre.
" I was invited to the opening under the new contractors in 2010 and what a change" Debbie said " I am so pleased to have been part of the process and deliver my promise of 4 years ago" she continued
