Promoting Faster Broadband

20/2/2013

Debbie met with Maria Miller, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport on Tuesday. One of Maria's responsibilties is for broadband so Debbie pushed the case for higher broadband speeds in rural areas. Debbie has spent the last 2 years as a broadband champion encouraging people to complete the County Council Survey to justify the need for faster broadband
" We are lucky in Chalford that our exchange is being updated and therefore should have access to faster broadband during 2013. Stroud is also updated and Dursley is also due to be completed by 2013. It is essential we have the best broadband we can get to help those who work from home as well as for social use"

Supporting Town Centre Regeneration

Debbie was at the inaugural meeting of the Towns Team, which aims to encourage more people to use the High Street. This is being funded from a Department of Business Innovation and Skills grant obtained by Neil Carmichael MP. The Towns Team will focus on promoting the many festivals in Stroud District in order to encourage people to visit and use the High Street.
This is a joint partnership between Stroud Chamber, Stroud District Council and Councillors and business representatives from Stroud, Dursley, Wootton and Painswick.
The Portas Pilot project shows we need to think innovatively about how to encourage more people to use the High Street, and this is what the Towns Team is all about'
