Food Surplus or wasted food has been the hot topic over the past year or so, from crops being ploughed back into the land to food in out own fridges being thrown into the bin. Programmes such as Eat Well for Less and Hughs War on Waste have highlighted both the problem and the cost. We can all do our bit by using up bits and bobs, buying less but Debbie has gone one step further in her food project and now takes all of Waitrose food surplus " if you go past a use by date, this could cause health issues and are fresh meat products in the main but best before dates refer to the taste of a product and are on tins, packets and bottles. Exceeding a best before date will not cause illness" explained Debbie." A lot of what we get is because packaging is damaged and would have been thrown away, or is fresh baked bread which has to be sold on the day" she continued Debbie and Ginny Smart, one of the Conservative candidates for Stonehouse have been working to reduce food waste through Waste not Stroud and are featured with Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall on BBC1 in May
