Debbie spent today judging the Grand Village Fete, which is organised by fellow Conservative Councillor Liz Peters. Judging included knobbly knees, beautiful baby, cupcakes, juggling and dog with the waggiest tail.

All proceeds go to local charities.

Debbie said "it was such a lovely day, and I loved judging the various categories with my fellow judges. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great day. Credit needs to be given to Liz and her committee for making this such a great day out"

Local Art

Chalford is full of art and creativity. The 9th and 10th of May and the 16th/17th May show that art and creativity off to its best with Open Studios and the Stroud International Textile Festival. Last weekend Debbie visited the studio of Penel Kirk on Chalford High Street to see her work. The Unicorn took pride of place, amongst other works of flowers, fairies and Lilliputians.

Debbie said "Penel has some amazing work, in a variety of styles and media. Chalford is a great place to appreciate the wide variety of artist we have locally. This is well worth a visit next weekend"

Firth Youth Club

When the Parish Council took over the trusteeship of the Youth Club last year, Debbie set up and chaired the Working Party to redevelop the club and its services. In April and Spruce up Saturday was organised to clean up inside and outside the Centre. Whilst Brendan organised the workers and got volunteers, Debbie organised and cooked food for the workers with a very kind donation from Waitrose. So bacon and sausage rolls for breakfast and cheeseburgers for lunch saw the 15 helpers well fed.

Debbie said " I'm not a great DIYer but cooking for people I can do and was my contribution to the day"

Elections

9/5/2015

The General Election 2015 is finally over, the votes were counted well into the night at Stratford Park Leisure Centre to produce a Conservative victory in the Stroud Constituency, the local elections and nationally

During the campaign, many high profile visitors came to Stroud to help campaign and Debbie met with many of them.

Debbie said " as well as familiar faces it was lovely to see people who I normally only talk to on Twitter, such as Lord Courtown and his fellow peer Lord Liverpool"

School Trip

9/5/2015

One of the wonderful things about being in politics is the access it gives you to do things for other people. Debbie been really fortunate over the years to be able to take the Year 6 children  from her daughters school to the House of Commons and this year was not exception. The school was joined by Neil Carmichael MP as they left for their trip to London.
Debbie said " it was lovely to see the children's faces when they first left the Tube at Westminster and saw Big Ben, we had a tour of the House of Lords and learnt the history of Central Lobby. it was an amazing experience for the children"
After the visit around the Palace and a picnic lunch, the children went up to Buckingham Palace via Horseguards where they saw the guards changing

Fresh Ground Cafe

The Fresh Ground Café is a new café which has opened in Cainscross. It is however A Café with a difference. The café is supported by the County Council and The Brandon Trust to train people with learning difficulties into work. The café has been opened now for several weeks and Debbie was invited to the opening.

Debbie said "I really support social enterprises which can encourage those with learning difficulties and this is another example. this model will 2 people into paid employment and so continue their journey to independence, they also make a great coffee"

Scarecrow Trail 2015

9/5/2015

The Easter school holidays saw the village inundated with visitors from far and wide to look at the scarecrows which ran from Chalford Hill and along the Valley. This is the 11th year that the event has been run raising smiles from visitors and much needed funds for local charities. Over the years Debbie has been a strong supporter of the event and this year, together with daughter Samantha she did three shifts selling maps from the Village Shop.

Debbie said "Its always great fun, helping out and this year was even more special as money was going to the Frith Youth Centre, another cause I support and help"
