Proposed Parking Restrictions

23/5/2016

This is my response to the new parking restrictions

Dear Mr Townley

I have been copied in to several emails from my parishioners concerning the proposed changes to parking in Chalford by Victoria Works. Firstly I am disappointed that local District Councillors appear not to have been made aware of this, perhaps this was due to the election period in the District.

I do have several comments to make,

Firstly parking is at a premium in Chalford and although parking causes problem for the buses, a County Council operation, my concern is about parking for residents and businesses in my Ward. These restrictions would as Mrs Reeks points out would prevent many residents parking any where near their homes, creating an  up to 10 minute walk, possibly with children, shopping and we have several people in the village who have disabilities. It may be just simpler to move the bus stop from where it is on The Green/Triangle onto the main road thus avoiding the issue of turning

Secondly there is a lot of concern about speeding on the A419 coming down the hill, I myself have been involved in several campaigns to reduce the speed limit along this stretch of the road. The parked cars outside Victoria Works provide a natural speed reduction, something I know that Highways in the past have promoted rather than traffic lights, reduced speed limits or village gateways.

Thirdly, both the County and District are committed to providing local sustainable employment which Lavender Bakehouse, Elbesee, Just Crafts and Victoria Works provide. It would be a shame to jeopardise such local and successful employment which no parking would cause

Fourthly, Just Crafts have moved some of their operation out of the area, therefore increasing the parking for Lavender Bakehouse which will naturally reduce the parking on the A419

I would like this to be a matter of public record and am happy to discuss it with you

I can be contacted on 07973 137877

Kindest regards

Cllr Debbie Young
