Conservative Councillor

Working for the people of Stroud and Chalford

Rodborough Fields

Debbie organised and attended a meeting with Brandon Lewis, Under Secretary of State for the Department of Communities  and Local Government to discuss Neighbourhood Planning. Neighbourhood Planning will ensure that development occurs where local communities feel it is appropriate. There is £30,000 available to the District Council for each Neighbourhood Plan for Officer support for those groups wishing to undertake the work. In addition there is £7,000 to be paid directly to each of those groups to support their work. Undertaking a Neighbourhood Plan will ensure that unwanted development such as Baxters Field and Rodborough Fields will not happen in the future.

Rodborough Fields Exhibition

Debbie and her daughter went to the Imperial Hotel today to support the Rodborough Fields campaign to halt development on the Rodborough Fields. Sam played an important role by logging peoples addresses onto a large map to see how many are concerned about plans to build all over Stroud.

Debbie said...
"We do need houses, but it is about where they are built and they need to be built with the consent of the existing population. If this doesn't happen we will not have united communities"

Debbie has been supportive of this campaign and others to halt unwanted development.
Debbie also delivered leaflets from Neil Carmichael MP emphasizing his support for their campaign.

Update:

There is to be an exhibition of the plans for Rodborough Fields at the Imperial Hotel on the 29th January from 3.30 until 7pm. Local people will be able to make their comments on the plans and Debbie will be there to support those opposed to the housing proposals, Please come and join her and others to ensure local views are represented.

Rodborough Fields

As with Baxters Field, this another case of development in inappropriate areas. Rodborough Fields are used by those walking dogs and those seeking calm near the busy Town Centre. The loss of this wildlife corridor in addition to the increased traffic means that it is a good case to hope the proposal is refused. There is also a concern that once houses are built on part of the site then further housing will be built. At a meeting with the developers last year I asked for total clarity on the land that they owned which they reluctantly agreed to do.

As a strong supporter of Localism and Neighbourhood planning I would urge community groups and the Parish Council to look at making such a plan to strengthen their hands in opposing this and future developments.
